Camp of Combat Arts 2010

Welcome to the Alberta Jiu-Jitsu Association's Eighth Annual Camp of Combat Arts being held Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Southland Leisure Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

This is a day of hands-on day training with some of Canada's top martial arts instructors, trainers and champions. This one day series of seminars has something for everyone, of every skill level, from sport-based combat arts to effective self-defense.

Tickets go on sale to the public on June 1, 2010. Links to purchase tickets can be found on this page (after June 1) or at www.CombatArts.pro.

  • Tickets are $175 per participant and there are only 100 tickets available for this years event.

There will be a limited number of tickets available for participants to the Instructor Appreciation Dinner being held at Escoba Bistro in downtown Calgary following the seminars.

Provincial Jiu-Jitsu Tournament 2010

The annual Provincial Jiu-Jitsu Tournament is going to be held some time in October 2010.


Categories are as follow:


Children's Demo Team for 5 years old to 7 years old;

Junior's Demo Team for 7 years old to 12 years old;

Junior's Duo Competition for 7 years old to 12 years old;

Junior's Weapons Competition for 7 years old to 12 years old;


Adult's Demo Team for 13 years and up;

Advanced Adult's Demo Team for 13 year old and up (Brown Belt and Higher);

Adult's Weapons Competition for 13 years and up;

Adult's Duo Competition for 13 years and up;
Adult's Gi Grappling for 13 years and up;

Adult's No-Gi Grappling for 13 years and up;


Some categories will have weight classes and some will be based on skill set; beginner; intermediate and advanced.

2010 AJJA Awards

The 2009 winners and categories they were nominated for the Alberta Jiu-Jitsu Awards for 2009 are as follows:


Provincial Instructor of the Year: Sensei K.D. Lintott

Provincial Female Student of the Year: April Lintott

Provincial Male Student of the Year: George Maxwell


Northern Instructor of the Year:
 Sensei Eric Langevin
Northern Female Student of the Year:
 Casey Schryver
Northern Male Student of the Year: Leo Chartier


Southern Instructor of the Year: Sensei Mark Tallack

Southern Female Student of the Year: No Nomination
Southern Male Student of the Year: Cristian Simescu


Criteria for the 2010 awards has changed slightly and will include the awards listed above. Please note to be considered for the Southern or Northern Awards the candidate must meet all requirements within their own Dojo (club) only! To be considered for the Provincial awards the Instructor or student must exceed the requirements for their own Dojo and be doing things within the Alberta Jiu-Jitsu Association to Improve the Society and Jiu-Jitsu as a whole in the Province of Alberta. If the person you nominate is selected for the Provincial award there is a cost for the award once they are selected. Cost is $100 per winner to cover the cost of production of the award at a cost recovery only. All other awards are $30 per winner all award winners are presented with a certificate.


Please take a few minutes of your time to download, print and fill out the Nomination Form for the 2010 Student (Male and Female) and Instructor (Male and Female) of the year. This is your opportunity to formally recognize the excellence in the people you workout with regularly. Winners of this award will be announced January 6, 2010.

Forms must be received no later than September 30, 2010. Awards will be given out in October at the AJJA Provincial Tournament!
